Overview
Al-Aqsa Mosque, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, is the third holiest site in Islam. It is built on the Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary), the same compound that houses the Dome of the Rock, an iconic Islamic shrine. Al-Aqsa is believed to be the place where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ascended to heaven during the miraculous Night Journey (Isra and Mi’raj).
Originally constructed in the 7th century, the mosque has been restored and renovated multiple times due to earthquakes and conflicts. It features a silver dome, intricately designed interiors, and large prayer halls capable of hosting thousands of worshippers. The compound is also significant in Christian and Jewish traditions, making it a historically and spiritually rich landmark.
Despite ongoing political tensions, Al-Aqsa remains a sacred symbol of Islamic faith and perseverance, drawing thousands of worshippers who cherish its spiritual and historical significance.
